Beaver Island, a former (mormon) kingdom and the largest island in Lake Michigan, has lots to explore, either by dinghy or mothership, like the gull rookery on High Island or the Native American spirit houses on Garden Island. No matter what your itinerary, the Beaver Island archipelago is full of interesting nature and history, and should be at the top of your list when cruising Lake Michigan. Beaver Island is dubbed as "America's Emerald Isle" for its celebrated Irish culture. Beaver Island is most often described as a "quiet getaway". You'll sail past strangely beautiful "Grey's Reef" with its glass-transparent water, and the oldest lighthouses you've ever seen.

You can visit the Toy Museum, or the Old Mormon Print Shop Museum, or take the boat tour and see the lighthouses. There are only a few Beaver Island Cruise Port Hotels, and a couple of Bed and Breakfasts that will take you right out of modern times, like log cabins in the mist. Beaver Island Cruise Port Parking is inexpensive, but if you're planning to sightsee, why not cut your expenses and get your hotel and parking in one package instead?
