If you want convenience and user-friendliness, use DAB airport please!  I fly into this airport at every opportunity I get avoiding the hustle and bustle of MCO (Orlando). much more convenient than the hour or so drive south to MCO, all the tolls and traffic.  We are always in and out of here in a flash.  Too bad it can cost up to $100 or more to fly into Daytona as opposed to Orlando.  I usually start hunting for a discount several months in advance and so far, I have been lucky but it is still usually more expensive to fly into DAB as opposed to MCO.  I'll take this airport over MCO whenever I can get a good deal.

However, the bad thing is that there isn't a gift shop post-security, so if you want reading materials, you have to go back to the main terminal, get your magazines, and go through happy security land again.

There is some sort of restaurant/bar in before security -- when we asked when they opened, the fellow at the gift shop said "oh, they're inconsistent."

If you are looking for an airport with restaurants, gift shops and lots of people, go to Orlando.  If you are looking for an airport where all the staff are friendly, courteous and professional, (including TSA), and you want to go through security in 5 minutes then fly out of DAB.  Additionally, Daytona Beach International Airport parking is just across the street from the gates so if you park your car, check your bags and walk to your gate it will probably take you all of 15 minutes, start to finish.  No crowds and no hassle. Just ridiculously more expensive than a park and fly package deal at a nice little DAB airport hotel, that's all.
