At least 5 major airlines fly into SDF (US Airways, Delta, American, Southwest, United), and most of the major car rental agencies are represented as well.  Since this is a smaller airport with not a lot of traffic , this means that there are fewer options as far as restaurants and shops if you have time to kill. They do have storefronts dedicated to a few of the major local attractions, including a Louisville Slugger store and a Churchill Downs shop.  There are 3 or 4 fast food options, a proper restaurant and a small arcade/game room before the TSA check, then once you get back to the gate area there's a news stand, a souvenier shop and a large Starbucks. There are a few fast food eateries and 2 restaurants with table service near the gates as well.  One amenity they could offer would be, complimentary WiFi.  Several airports offer it for free (Charlotte, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Ft. Lauderdale, etc.) however this airport only offers hotspots for Boingo, Virgin Mobile and Verizon paid WiFi.   I used Boingo (something like $4 for 2 hours), was seated at one of the US Airways gates and though I was paying for internet access here, I only had 3/5 bars on the strength meter and the speed was quite slow.
The Airport is very clean. One more thing I will ding the Airport on is that there are very few electrical outlets - the few that are around get taken quickly. Our outbound flight was via Gate A12, but we found that the unused Gate A8 area had several electrical outlets, so we were able to hang out, charge up our iPhones, and get some work done in quiet (no one else was hanging out in the A8 Gate area!). Short-term Louisville International Airport Parking is $19/day, long-term $9/day. There are also more Louisville International Airport hotels to choose from than in some larger cities, and that makes a hotel and parking package even more attractive.
