Things to Do in Vancouver

One of the most amazing landmarks in Vancouver is Canada Place. This fantastic convention centre, cruise ship port, and hotel always pops up on Vancouvers most popular postcards and calendars. This captivating piece of architecture decorates the Vancouver waterfront and is a great place of celebration on Canada Day.

It is a main focus of downtown for locals and visitors, who can take breathtaking panoramic photos of sparkling North Vancouver and surrounding mountains. You can watch as the sea buses launch and the float planes take off to the North Shore, as well as major cruise lines leaving the Port.

Stanley Park has attracted visitors from all over the globe, and nature enthusiasts are still amazed by its trees and scenic gardens. It is known as the largest city park located in Canada and it continues to keep local Vancouverites dazzled and captivated on a daily basis. The park covers about 1000 acres of lush green land.

Take a walk along the seawall and see as much of the park as you can while visiting. Stanley Park is always a great place for a family outing, or a romantic picnic. Stanley Park is open to the public all year round. You can choose to enter and leave whenever you want and most of the attractions operate from early morning to sunset. Enjoy the fresh pine smell!

Test your adrenaline and climb across one of North Vancouvers most spectacular suspension bridges. The Capilano Suspension Bridge thrills many visitors every week and people come from all over to test out their courage. The bridge is open for exploration every day of the year except December 25th. The park usually opens around 9 AM (except for 10am on Sundays) and closes around 5 or 6 PM in the winter.

During the summer the park is open until 8 or 9 PM in the evening. The admission price for the bridge is $25 for adults and $18 for children. BC residents also get a discount if they possess a seasons pass. You can visit anytime during the year, but try to go between May and September, to get the most out of your adventure!

Visitors can enjoy one of Vancouvers premiere attractions by traveling just 15 minutes out of downtown. Grouse Mountain is popular with visitors and the local Vancouverites because it offers skiing, top nature trails, World Famous Lumberjack Shows, Birds in Motion demonstrations, and the Observatory Restaurant where visitors can see panoramic views of downtown Vancouver.

The Observatory is also an excellent idea for a date because of the views, tasty West Coast cuisine, and candle light that creates a romantic vibe. Grouse Mountain is a winter wonderland for kids and adults alike, because it has 25 snowboard and ski runs, as well as sleigh rides, an outdoor skating rink, and snowshoe trails.

Gastown offers a mix of business tourism, new housing, nightclubs, restaurants, poverty, and hidden gems. It is flourished with media and design companies, as well as professional offices, art galleries, studios, film schools and architects. The most famous landmark that lies within Gastown is the steam-powered clock that is located on the corner of Water and Cambie Street.

This famous clock runs on electricity to support the steam mechanism and it keep the visitors amazed of its historic features. Gastown is known as the historical area of Vancouver and is the birthplace of the city of Vancouver. It was created at the same time that Canada became a nation as a whole. Today, Gastown remains historic, and independent from downtown.

Located in famous Stanley Park, the Vancouver Aquarium is a fantastic spot to take the family when on vacation. Local Vancouverites that have not seen the aquarium yet should also spin by and see the marine life it hosts. It has over 60,000 exotic and fascinating creatures that have come from all areas of the world. Visitors should make sure they get to see the sea otters, dolphins, and beluga whale shows that are held daily. This is a great way to keep the kids occupied and happy for the day when you are visiting the city of Vancouver.

From markets to theatres, to top restaurants and bars, there is something for every taste on Granville Island. Redeveloped in 1970, Granville Island has remained famous for its community of glassblowing studios, master shoemakers, jewelers, craft studios, and the B.C Potters Guild. Visitors love the islands weekly public farmers market and to feel the energy of the welcoming community.

The island is located along the picturesque waterfront of scenic False Creek and across from the False Creek Yacht Club. Best bars and places for food include Sand Bar and Restaurant, Bridges, Sammy J Peppers, The Dockside Brewing Company, or Arts Club Theatre Company. Beer lovers will enjoy a visit to the historic Granville Island Brewery!

A visit to Vancouver will never be complete without a complete day of shopping on world-renowned Robson Street. This famous street of flair stretches from the West End to Downtown and is home to many leading brands within the fashion and retail industry. Try to avoid going on a Saturday when it is a mad rush! It might feel like an outside mall in many ways because you will go from one shop to another on the strip.

You will find Club Monaco, Armani A/X and Gap between Jervis and Burrard Streets, as well as loads of other top brand shops. Most of downtowns shopping hub lies between the intersection of Granville and Georgia Street. You will also encounter department stores in this area such as Pacific Center, and Hudsons Bay Company.

Visit the largest Chinatown in Canada! Cantonese and Mandarin are the main tongues of 30% of Vancouver families, which makes Chinese the biggest minority ethnic community. Chinatown is filled with markets that provide dried and fresh seafood, vegetables, mushrooms, Chinese medicines and cheap houseware items. Visitors love this part of Vancouver because of its culture, little shops and small hotels that price cheaper than the rest of downtown.

For some, it is a shock after seeing all of the fancy shops on Robson Street and skyscrapers around the city. On weekends in the summer, Pender and Keefer Streets turn into a big open air market where you can try dim sum and tasty egg rolls. Please take caution when near East Hastings Street.

Take in a cultural experience by escaping the hustle and bustle of downtown and visit the Dr. Sun Yet San Chinese Gardens, based in Chinatown. It is known for giving its visitors peace of mind and a tranquil experience, as well as beautiful photos to take home. Nature lovers, philosophers, cultural enthusiasts and sightseeing fans are commonly found walking through the lush gardens.

Take a tour if you can to understand the Chinese culture and also visit the gift shop for some outstanding souvenirs. Built in 1986, Dr. Sun Yet Sat Gardens practiced the ancient ways of the Ming Dynasty Gardens. It is a living treasure that every visitor to Vancouver should experience.
